AUSTERBERRY GUARDS AGAINST COMPLACENCY
Alex Austerberry has warned his side against complacency when Worcester Valkyries visit Allianz Park this weekend.
The Women in Black put 177 unanswered points on their Tyrrells Premier 15s opponents last season, scoring 29 tries.
However, Austerberry considers Roy Davies’ team to be a different proposition this time around and insists his group need to be at their free-flowing best.
“Worcester, like us, has a young side,” he said.
“They have a great deal of potential and they will have learned a lot from last year and no doubt they will have evolved as a group.
“With the addition of some familiar faces in Laura Keates, Lisa Campbell and Lydia Thompson they will be a dangerous side and we cannot expect the same results as last year.
“In Roy they have a great coach who develops players well and accelerates learning. We have no doubt that this will be a very tough challenge.”
Saturday is Sarries Women’s first home match of the season and follows the opening round win at Firwood Waterloo Ladies.
Tickets remain on sale for the contest and head coach Austerberry is relishing his first league outing at Allianz Park.
He said: “The entire group is looking forward to our first league game of the season at Allianz Park.
“The support we get from our fans is superb and we relish playing at home. Hopefully we can put in a performance that excites and energises them even more!”
